Domains
A domain is a managed object with a few special responsibilities. A domain is a collection of objects which have been explicitly grouped together for management purposes e.g. to apply a common policy
Domains are rather like directories or folders in an operating system's filesystem. Domains can be nested giving an hierarchal file system. However, unlike a filesystem domains can overlap, that is, they may be members of more than one domain and ma even form cyclic hierarchies.
Policies can be specified in terms of domains this means that they do not have to enumerate each managed object that they apply to, also domain membership may be changed without changing policy.
